April, un’adolescente scontrosa che ce l’ha con il mondo intero, è costretta a passare una settimana di vacanza in un campeggio in riva al mare nel Dorset insieme alla famiglia, composta dalla madre Tina, la sorella piccola Dayna e la sorella grande Lucy con il marito Steve. Quando April scopre che nella loro roulotte non c’è neppure il collegamento wifi, la settimana di vacanza rischia di diventare la peggiore della sua vita. Cappello da pescatore calato in testa, occhiali da sole, taglio di capelli volutamente trasandato, April è goffa, maldestra, a disagio in qualsiasi situazione. Si sente incompresa dalla madre, benché questa accetti il fatto di avere una figlia lesbica e si sforzi in tutti i modi di capire i suoi malumori, non prova un grande affetto nei confronti della sorellina ed è lontana dalla sorella grande che aspetta un bambino. Il padre è assente, e si intuisce che per April è un problema. A rovesciare completamente la situazione, arriva Isla, la bella bagnina della piscina, di cui April si innamora. Un’apparizione solare, breve quanto l’estate inglese.

A lesbian teenager named April, who wants to be called AJ, socially awkward, environmentally conscious, misfit with family, school and society at large, is forced to spend a week’s vacation in a pleasant seaside village in Dorset with her family. The family is composed by mother Tina, little sister Dayna and big sister Lucy with her husband Steve. When AJ finds out that there is not even a wifi connection in the seaside cabin, the week of vacation risks to become the worst of her life. Hidden under a fisherman’s hat and always wearing sunglasses, with a deliberately unkempt haircut, AJ is clumsy and uncomfortable in any situation. She feels misunderstood by her mother, who accepts her lesbianism and struggles to understand her, she does not feel great affection for her little sister and is far away from her big sister who is expecting a baby. The father is not there, and it is clear that this is the big problem for AJ. To save AJ, comes the beautiful lifeguard of the pool, Isla, with whom AJ falls in love, a bright apparition as short as the English summer.
